Republicans Avoid Jan. 6 Observances at the Capitol

Date:

Democrats organized an event in the House chamber to commemorate the first anniversary of the Jan.6 riot in the Capitol.

Liz Cheney and her father former Vice President Dick Cheney were the only Republicans, to join the event.

250 Republicans are present in Congress. 212 are present in the House and 50 are present in the Senate. None of these, except House Representative Liz Cheney along with her father, former Vice President Dick Cheney attended this event. Ms. Cheney – who regularly speaks against former President Trump – was removed from her post for speaking against Trump. Ms. Cheney and her father were warmly greeted by Democrats, though her father had a bad history with Democrats.

Some Republicans just issued statements and most remained silent about the Jan. 6 riots.

Two Republican Representatives Matt Gaetz of Florida and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia held a news conference. They tried to deflect blame from Mr.Trump and promoted conspiracy theories about the origins of the assault on the Capitol.
