WASHINGTON — Mr. Biden accepted Ms. Pelosi’s invitation from Speaker Nancy Pelosi to deliver the State of the Union address to Congress on March 1.
Mr. Biden will talk on various issues in first address to be delivered in March.
The date is later than is traditional — the address will be the first to be delivered in March, Mr. Biden will utilise this extra time till March to advance his domestic policy package. This package has not yet passed in the Senate, due to objections of Democrat, Senator Joe Manchin III of West Virginia. Federal voting rights legislation to counter restrictions put in place by Republicans in some states has also not yet passed.
Mr. Biden in his address wants to talk about the performace of his administration.
President Biden wants to pass legislation to improve his approval ratings. Recent surveys shows his low approval ratings due to inflation and pandemic. Economists are predicting further unemplyment due to current increase in virus cases. President Biden has to convince this Democratic holdout, Mr. Manchin and Senator Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona to vote in favour of legislation in order to have upper hand over Republican opposition.
